This section is ONLY for users who received PowerNIC User's Manual
part # 12-01-0135-D1 bundled with a ver. F PowerNIC adapter. The manual part #
is printed on the outside back cover and on page iii. Ver. F adapters have
the number 05-01-0224-xx printed on the card in the middle near the top.
Other users may skip this section.
Information here is the same as in the Manual Update Notice inserted
into the manual.

VERSION E & VERSION F PowerNIC Adapters
Version F cards can be identified by the part number printed in the
middle of the PCB near the top of the card: 05-01-0224-xx.
Version E cards have the part number printed in the lower-left
corner of the card: 05-01-0179-xx.
Ver. F ISA-Bus PowerNIC adapters include all of the key features
of version E cards: 100% NE2000 compatibility, auto-detection of
8/16-bit ISA-bus, and full compliance with the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet
specification.
The major product enhancement in ver. F is support for the Plug &
Play (PnP) feature of Windows 95. (PnP is also implemented in the
BIOS of many computers.) The Operation Mode parameter has
been added to the Adapter Configuration function in SETUP.EXE so users
can configure the card appropriately.
In addition, minor changes to I/O addresses and LED functions
have been included in the ver. F product.
SETUP.EXE, INSTALL.EXE & DIAG200E.EXE
References in the manual to these files should be updated.
- The SETUP directory on the diskette has been eliminated. SETUP.EXE is
now located in the root directory.
- INSTALL.EXE & DIAG200E.EXE have been eliminated. Their functions are
incorporated into SETUP.EXE.
- SETUP.EXE now includes
+ Adapter Configuration (View Configuration, Change Configuration &
Run Diagnostics), and
+ Install Network Drivers (Installation procedures).
- The Operation Mode parameter has been added to the Adapter
Configuration feature.
OPERATION MODE
Ver. F ISA-bus PowerNICs support three Operation Modes: Jumperless,
Plug & Play (PnP), and AutoSense.
Jumperless mode is the factory default setting. This allows the
PowerNIC to operate in all systems and be configured by the
SETUP program.
The PnP mode is for users who want the adapter to take advantage of the
PnP environment which may be implemented in a computer's BIOS or operating
system (OS) software such as Windows 95.
Changing the Operation Mode setting to PnP enables either the BIOS or OS
to automatically configure the adapter when the system boots.
NOTE: If there is no support for PnP in the system BIOS or OS, the
adapter will not be recognized by the driver software and will not work.
The few users who implement two OS's on the same computer may choose the
AutoSense mode. AutoSense lets the adapter automatically switch between
Jumperless and PnP modes, depending on system capability.
I/O ADDRESSES
Sixteen I/O addresses are supported by ver. F adapters:
200, 220, 240, 260, 280, 2A0, 2C0, 2E0, 300 (Default), 320, 340,
360, 380, 3A0, 3C0, 3E0.
LED
The PWR LED on the CN200Eplus(F) is now green.
