PCtel NSP-based Internal Modem Sotware Installation
===========================================
The PC-tel NSP-Based Internal modem software is designed to operate under Wondows 3.1x
enchanced mode enviroment. The installation procedure are:

(1). Insert the PCtel NSP modem software (3 1/2") diskette into the floppy drive.
(2). Open Windows.
(3). From Windows Main Menu double click the file manager icon to invoke the Windows file manager.
(4). Select the Floppy drive (A: or B:) where the PCtel software diskette reside.
(5). Run SETUP program on the selected diskettte.

PCtel setup program will automatically install the NSP-based internal modem on the Windows.
An PCTEL program group will be created after the initial installation. The default set up for the NSP modem is using IRQ 3. MODEMKIT program in this group is provided for you to select a different IRQ in case of any conflict (NOTE: IF your modem board is half card only IRQ 2-7
can be used). PCEYE program provides a diagnostic tool for you to monitor the constellations during a modem connection.

After the setup program successfully installed the software drivers, you must reboot the windows to active the modem in order to use it.

Simple Diagnostic Sequence for PCtel modem card
=========================================
When you are experiencing difficulty with the PCtel modem, do not panic. The following is a simple steps to help you isolate the possible cause. Follow the step until you encounter the obstacle.

Enter the Window 3.1X, and select the Microsoft Terminal program in the Accessories group. Make sure the communication setting at 19200 with the proper COM port selected.

(1) If the port opened properly, go to the next step. Otherwise, check if you have any other communication software is opened and using the same port. Close that software if so. If not, switch to a different COM port. If problem persist, most likely you have a bad ASIC.

(2) Type AT, you should see 'OK' response. If nothing happened at this point, this indicates that the modem is not getting the proper IRQ.

(3) Test analog loop back by typing AT&T1. We expect to see the 'CONNECT 19200/CARRIER 14400' result code appeared. After the CONNECT message, the modem is in the data mode and ready to transfer a text file. You can either use the TRANSFER function in the terminal program to do a file transfer or by simply typing any characters from the terminal. If error occurs during the file transfer or an 'ERROR' code appeared instead of CONNECT message, it indicates that signal quality of the modem card is degraded. Use the modem escape sequence (+++ AT) to return the modem to the command mode. Type AT&V3 to get some debug information. You can type this command several times, but look carefully at the result code especially in the OVR and UND fields. If the number keep increasing, the modem is having some conflict with another device. If those number remain the same, we may have a hardware problem in the CODEC or hybrid section.

If your modem passed all the above test, the next thing to check is the DAA section of the board.

(4) Connect your modem card to a PBX line or direct phone line. Use ATDT command to dial a number with a phone set connected. If the remote phone ring, the DAA circuit is functioning normally. Typical problem in this section will cause 'NO DIALTONE' result code.

(5) Use a phone set to dial the modem card. You should expect the 'RING' response code appeared on the terminal. If it doesn't, the ring detection circuit is not functioning.
