MODEM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Before attempting to use the installation diskette to load the modem, please follow the instructions below to prepare the drive for the modem installation on a Terminator, Terminator 2, or Conquest System:
2. Remove from the Win95 registry any currently installed modem. This is accomplished by :
* Single left click the Win95 "Start" button
* Single left click "Settings" from the pop-up menu.
* Single left click "Control Panel"
* Double click on the "Modem" icon.
* Single left click to select the "Compaq Presario Modem" or other modem.
* Single left click on the "Remove" button.
* Single left click "OK" when asked if you really want to remove the modem from the system.
3. Open the "C:\Windows\Inf " directory. This is a hidden directory from Win95 Explorer, so options must be changed in the "View" pull-down menu, "Options" selection: select "Show all files" and de-select "Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered".
4. Isolate all oem.inf files. = integer sequence number.
5. Identify all oem.inf files associated with the modem or the modem wave driver and delete these files from the "C:\Windows\Inf" directory. This is a critical step in the installation procedure and must not be skipped or compromised (if these files are present on your system).
6. Repeat steps 9 and 10 in directory "C:\Windows\Inf\Other" for any inf files (these will not be named oem.inf) associated with the Compaq Presario modem (or LT Win Modem).
7. Insert the CCSD diskette in the a:\ drive:
* Single left click the Win95 "Start" button.
* Single left click "Run".
* Type in "a:\setup" in the dialog box
* Single left click the "OK" button.
8. CCSD Setup will run to completion, then present a dialog box telling you that Windows 95 needs to restart in order for the installation to complete:
* Single left click "Yes, restart Windows now"
* Single left click "Finish" at the bottom of the dialog window.
9. When Windows 95 restarts, the Hardware Installation Wizard will appear and if the dialog box halts and prompts for the manufacturers diskette for an "Unknown Device", then the system BIOS does not recognize the modem, and a manual installation is necessary - Please continue installation from step 10. If the Installation Wizard identifies the unknown hardware as "Compaq Presario 336-DF......." Modem, then the system BIOS recognized the modem hardware and Plug and Play installation will complete automatically. When the Installation Wizard describes the modem correctly, a dialog box prompting the user for the location of the driver files for the Compaq Presario modem will appear. Please provide "c:\windows\options\cabs" as the directory where Windows can find the appropriate modem driver files. This completes installation of the modem if BIOS assisted Plug and Play was active and automatically installed the modem. Skip to the last step (step # 11) in this document to test the modem.
