Diagnostics for Boca BEN 100 / 102 / 300 ethernet cards.



The Boca Research NETDIAG program can be used to diagnose problems in your

network environment that are sporadic and untrackable using conventional

hardware troubleshooting techniques.



The following instructions will guide you through the proper setup of your

computer in order to properly execute the NETDIAG program/





- Create a bootable DOS diskette. This is done by inserting an unformatted

diskette in drive A: and typing FORMAT A:/S at the DOS prompt.



- Copy the NETDIAG program to the diskette you formatted.



- Unplug any cables that are attached to your Boca Ethernet board.



- Be sure the formatted diskette is in the A: drive and the drive is closed.



- "Cold boot" your computer. This requires turning the machine off and then

on again after waiting a few seconds.



- Once booted, type NETDIAG at the A:\> prompt.



- You will receive a prompt that looks similar to the following:

->Ethernet address PROM checksum OK: 034E

PCnet-ISA board found at I/O base address 0300h

This prompt is not your standard DOS prompt. While the cursor is blinking,

you can type the one of the commands listed below.





LOOPI: This is an internal loopback test. With no cables installed in

the board, type LOOPI at the NETDIAG prompt.

NETDIAG will respond with: Internal Loopback PASSED or FAILED



LOOPE: This test requires a loopback cable*.

NETDIAG will respond with: External Loopback PASSED or FAILED



*A loopback cable can be made by using one pair of wires in a length of cable

and connecting pin 1 to pin 3 and pin 2 to pin 6.



QUIT: Exits NETDIAG.



?: Provides help screen with available program options.
