Hey there,
I have a HP pavilion 700 system #P8564A SW BOM NA70.

I bought a nice monitor to go with it recetly ( samsung widescreen 906CW NA70 )

i Hooked it up and realized the image was all stretched, i was told by a friend of mine that i needed to change the Video Card in order to have the correct screen resolution available.

What kind of card should i get for the PC and is it hard to install on my own?

Thanks a lot for your help
you need a card that nativly supports the resolution of your screen. most likely the resolution is something like 1440x900 or similar. most just released cards will have this (wide screen) resolution but i would suggest just reading the package. they are not that hard to install just dont lose the driver disk
quick check of your monitor online and it should look best set at the following res and refresh rate.

screen res
1920x1200

refresh rate 60Hz

see if your card can be set to this in display settings.
if not you will need a new card but depends on what slots you have in that pc, i am doing my best to call up the specs for you model but i have a list to choose from, please turn that pc round and look on its back sticker.
please note down its full model number and post that back here.
i need to find out if you have a AGP port or not.
bit more digging at hp found what i was looking for.
it does have a AGP port running at x4 speed

thats a pretty slow port but it is possible to run your new monitor.
what you need is one of the last AGP cards to come out , something like a nvidia 6800GT or 6800 ultra

both will run that sort of screen res.
you will not get the best from the card as they are a x8 card but you will get a much better display then what you have now.

you still face one more problem as well.
the upper end AGP cards need power , the port can not supply all the power needed by the card so you have to plug in a spare HD or cdrom power form your main psu .

now to run that sort of card and your pc you need a good 400 watt psu.
please do not be tempted to go for one of these cheap 600watt + plus things.
when it comes to psu name brands are evereything.
cheap unknow jap things tend to go pop and take your motherboard and everything else with them.
edit oops
thanks for the answer, the Bus interface that i have is a PCI.
I downloaded the techpowerup GPU software and i got the following infos:
Name: Intel® 82845G/GL Graphic COntroller
GPU i845G
Bus interface : PCI

There is no way i can get a new video card that will support that wide screen on a PCI bus type?

Thanks again for the help
