what type/brand motherboard work for hp pavalion a 1000
hp make there own motherboards or its a oem part number made by a third party.
now sometimes like dell hp make the board to fit one case only , this is a pain as you can't just buy a off the rake standard board to it the case.

if you really think you need a new motherboard and going by some of your post on this site i really think its best left to a computer shop.

like i said in a post before you need to reinstall windows in order to rule out any problems with the motherboard.

windows xp is very easy to install.
just put the windows xp disk in the cdrom, tell your bios to boot from cdrom and start the setup of xp.

now i do fear this may be a bit much for you and i really don't mean to be rude here but you need help in order to rule out a windows fault or a motherboard fault.
if its the latter a new motherboard will need to be fitted with the exchange of parts from one board to another like the cpu , memory , video card , modem e.t.c

when you buy a motherboard its bare no parts fitted you need to fit the parts yourself.

this really is out the scope of this site as we can't see what you are doing in order to help you.

i will give you a example
the cpu has x amount of pins or contacts
if you fit this wrong you bend the pins or worse still snap them in the socket and redender the cpu / motherboard dead.

i have seen people try and fit a intel p4 in to a socket A amd board then wonder why it does not work
My motherboard has problem. i am probably going to repair the motherbord. if it cant repaired i need to get a motherboard which fit with my processor which is
INTEL
PENTIUM
640 SL 7Z8 CHINA
3.20GHZ/2M/000/04A

So please give me the names of motherboard which can fit with my processor.
Also please include the price also.
that is a socket 775 intel cpu. running on a 800 fsb

so you will need a socket 775 motherboard that supports the 800fsb your video card and memory sims

again i can't see your pc so i don't know if you have a micro atx mini atx or standard atx motherboard. or if you have a pci express video card or agp , or ddr or ddr2 memory
like wise i have no idea what country your in so i can't give you a price but a trip round your local pc stores or a net search in your own country should give you a good idea of price.

turn that pc round and look on its back sticker, note down its full make and model number ( it will be printed on there )
then contact HP in your country and ask them how much a replace-ment motherboard would be to fit that model.

thats the only sure way of making sure that all your hardware fits the board and indeed that board fits your case

well now i saw this message on my monitor when turn on the pc it gives 5 option to start wiows. when i press enter on every option it says this
The following files are missing or currupted.
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
re install the files

so now what should I do
if i may interject 1 thing. if you are replacing the motherboard with a non DELL motherboard you will find out that any preinstalled copy of windows will probably not work with your new motherboard. (this may not be your problem but from experience this can be a major problem with tier 1 systems like DELL, Gateway, compaq and HP to name just a few)
is your hard drive loosing files by any chance ?
that is a sign of disk fade and whould explan alot of your problems.

as i have said a few times now.

a clean install of windows to rule out other possible faults is the way forward !

by clean install i mean just that format your hard drive to get rid of all the old junk and corrupt files and start over.

all this can be done from the windows xp disk.
you just have to start the pc on the windows xp cdrom in order to start the install.

would really help if you posted what version of windows this machine is running. that was just a guess at xp.

starfire where you get dell from Big Grin
this is a hp machine, i can see what your getting at but i don't think this member will.
