I am trying to attach a WD my book to my dell 2400 and use the resource CD to load the XP OS so that I can boot from the My BOOK. The startup process tells me that the BIOS does not recognize the USB device. When I go into the BIOS config, there is not an option to boot from USB. Is there anything I can do?
If there is no option in the bios such as "boot other device" it's not likely. If you have a USB floppy device available, you can check the bootability of the machine with a DOS floppy disk. The setups of usb storage devices such as a MyBook are somewhat proprietary. Some can not be read by the machine connected to them without the software establishing a connection.
