Hi, after giving up with Vista I installed XP and have been struggling to get all the drivers installed. I think I am winning (after getting the graphics card installed lastnight), but I am stuck with the chipset....

Here's how things look at the mo....

and here's the drivers I have....

I think I know what driver to install, but I don't know if you "reinstall" the coprocessor?? Ethernet Controller?? Modem Device?... etc.
Sad

Any help would be appreciated.

Adam
Just taken care of the "coprocessor" and "modem device", but the "ethernet controller" had a exclamation mark next to it and I somehow removed it.... Is it important?? Shy

So that leaves me with "SM Bus Controller" and "Unknown Device" left.........
Any danger of finding someone around here who knows somethings about computers?

i really do need the correct number.

to find the correct drivers i really need to know your chipset.

ethernet controller is the lan card

i am sorry but my own site has become so busy that i find it hard to log on to driverzne everyday so replys may be slow
Thanks for the reply, Davey. I appreciate that things may get a little hectic from time to time. Without doing anything you actually helped me to get my graphics card installed (from reading previous threads).

Here's where I downloaded and installed the chipset from: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...ct=1842078

My laptop is a Compaq V6000 Presario.
I have just turned over my pc and looked at the model on the back. It says: Product: Presario V6500.

1.9ghz
160gb HD

Reason I list the above spec is because the model I found on HP's website, it said it had a 1.6ghz processor. Not sure if it made anything difference.
ok small problem.
two models for V6500 listed one has intel chipset the other nvidia.

please check again.

V6500T CTO has realtek sound and intel chipset.

V6500Z CTO has conexant sound and a nvidia chipset.

both differ a great deal and its imporant we get the right one or your end up loading all the wrong drivers and having to start over.

Ahh... it's this one (one highlighted).

Smile

EDIT: When I double-checked on the back of the laptop, I couldn't see the above name, although it has the NVIDIA graphics. All what is on the back is: Product: V6500. There's a serial number if that would help....

Here's an update to how things look now....

I somehow interfered with the IDE Channels while attempting to install the ethernet driver, although I won't attempt anything more while you investigate.

Update...

Thanks for shedding some light on what model my pc is, davey. I researched drivers for this and found this useful thread where I downloaded and installed the new chipset driver. It cured all the problems bar a exclamation mark next to BCM5701 gigabite ethernet.
good i know i was not here 100% but when you know your model number and do a little reading most of the drivers can be found to downgrade almost all but the very new laptops.

would really help if hp sony and toshiba supported their products for windows xp.
hp saying that the hardware was built for vista is a right load of old bull as most of the downgrades are on hardware that came out for windows xp.

only the very newest geforce go " 8 " series is for vista as it supports direct x 10 and hd video but even that should work with windows xp
