Ok I want to downgrade to XP, I have the OS and most of the drivers. Alas, the HDD driver is what I REALLY need and Toshiba (manufacturer of my lappy) says that neither Toshiba or AMD (maker of my chipset) made a driver for SATA. OK I hate Vista, I want Xp... Sad( Anyone know of maybe a third party driver or SOMETHING?? Please help!
do you know what AMD ( ATI ) chipset you have ?

if you do then you should be able to get the sata drivers direct from ATI/AMD website.
http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

quick tip for you as well vista is 9 times out of 10 using the xp drivers you need.
if toshiba offer the vista driver download it and fully unpack it.
don't use the self install , use device manager to install the driver.
if your loading it at the F6 stage in xp copy all the files ( not the self install ) on to a floppy and point xp towards it.
Chipset is : AMD M690V

I don't know how to tell if it is a driver for Xp or not. Is there someway of doing this? I've looked for an XP driver on amd's webpage, and there's nothing there or from Toshiba. Sad This really sucks. I hope you can help me further. And thanks for what you have given me so far.
can you look on the bottom of that toshiba laptop and let me know the full model number as its listed on that sticker.

i need to see if i can find out what ATI express chipset is being used.

AMD M690V is part of the ATI express 1200 family but i really need to pin it right down to point you to the motherboard drivers at ATI
Model #: a215-s4767
Part #: PSAEGU-00y00v[/u]
you know what i hate AMD and toshiba.

you would not beleve how many pages i have just sat down to read.

the toshiba A210-10Y has the same chipset as yours the AMD m690v and is supported bu toshiba for windows xp.
and can i find a sata driver listed in the downloads ,
nope.
i can see a acpi and the cpu driver which you should load.
maybe its because i am so tired its 2am here.
have  look over this lot of downloads and see if you can spot it.

that link may time out if it does go here and call up the A210-10Y
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/...modSel.jsp

its under  Satellite pro
right this is getting to me now Big Grin

feel like a gamble ?

i dropped the " m " for mobile off the 690v chipset and went and found a desktop motherboard with the normal 690V chipset.

now i would try doing this.

first click this link to msi
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=...od_no=1166

download both the system device drivers and the raid driver.

unpack the drivers fully
now the important part don't use the self install.
if you have windows xp installed on that toshiba use device manager.
call up the sata and use the update driver option.
point it to the folder you just unpacked the drivers in to and see if xp will pick up on the correct drivers.

this really is just a idea i came up with and i really don't know if this is going to work or not but its well worth a try.
