I am having a problem with my cd rom drive. It will open and close constantly. I took it in because i thought i ahd a virus and the guy told me i didnt and that he couldnt remeber wht he did but the cd rom drive didnt open&close for him anymore. i got it home and it ran fine for a few days now it is doing it again. I have a windows Xp home edition
that sounds like a fault in the drive its self.
i have seen drives to this if the little stop switch built inside does not work so the drive does not know when its open or closed.
to test this start the pc as soon as you get your bios screen pop up press the pause/break key
this will stop the bios and stop windows from starting.
now see if the drive still does the same thing if it does its a fault in the drive and it needs to be replaced.
to start your bios off again and continue to windows just push enter.
