Also have an Inspiron, 4000, I replaced a 64mb RAM with a 128. All the laptop was capable of doing was constantly cycle, nothing on the screen, etc. I couldn't shut it down with the power button and had to remove the power adapter. I then removed the new RAM and replaced it with the old 64mb. It still just cycles so I can't troubleshoot. Is there any way to get around this problem?
you have locked its bios up by adding the new ram.

see if you can get in to your bios screen and reload its defaults.
that should clear the error.

dell use delete and or the F2 key to get in the bios. as soon as you switch on the laptop push and keep pushing the F2 key like a mad thing.
