Hey,

I'm new here and not that great with computers so forgive me if this is an easily fixable problem. Recently, my other computer stopped booting. So I had to do a clean reformat and reinstall of Windows XP. Now it boots, however, the sound doesn't work and it doesn't seem to recognise that I've connected it up to our router, so the internet won't work either. The speakers do work, and so does the router, as I'm using it with this computer to post this message.

It seems like a driver problem, and it probably is, however I'm posting this here because it seems I'm unable to find out the make and version of the devices in question, so I'm unable to request the proper drivers. Also, when I bought the computer, over 2 years ago, it didn't come with any driver installation disks.

I've transferred the following pictures in the hope they'll be helpful to solving my problem.

Shows the list of 'Other Devices' that seem to be the problem.

And here is a list of the other options there were instead of 'device instance Id'.

The device instance Ids were cut off in those pictures, here they are in full:

Ethernet Controller - Device Instance Id - PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8169&SUBSYS_0CA4105B&REV_10\4&126 99180&0&3048

Multimedia Audio Controller - Device Instance Id - PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0059&SUBSYS_0CA4105B&REV_A2\3&241 1E6FE&0&20

PCI Memory Controller - Device Instance Id - PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_005E&SUBSYS_0CA4105B&REV_A2\3&241 1E6FE&0%00

SM Bus Controller - Device Instance Id - PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0052&SUBSYS_0CA4105B&REV_A2\3&241 1E6FE&0&09

Video Controller (VGA Compatible) - Device Instance Id - PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0141&SUBSYS_2002107D&REV_A2\4&385 BE0CR&0&0070

Clicking 'Reinstall Drivers' takes me to the Hardware Update Wizard which prompts me to connect to the internet, which I can't. And so it ends by saying "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."

Clicking 'Driver Details' reveals the message "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device."

Clicking 'Update Driver' takes me to the Hardware Update Wizard again.

This happens for all 5 of the devices.

I've also tried using 'Test My Hardware version 2.3'. But when I click for a system summary, an error appears, saying "Access violation at address 00479C84 in the module 'testmyhardware.exe'. Read of address 00000024." After opening the computer up, I noticed that where both the speakers and the ethernet wire plugs into my comp are 2 small boxes made by foxconn. However without any model numbers, I'm still a bit lost.

Sorry for the long post, but I'd greatly appreciate any help with this matter. If there's anything else I can add that I haven't thought of, please ask. Thanks for your time.
