I found this site by searching for something to solve my problem. I have a HP presario 906US laptop (470047-897). I am/was running WinXP. I was working on a research paper (20pgs) and left my laptop after logging out. A few days later my wife unplugs it and brings it to me complaining it's making a weird noise. I opened it up and found subject error message. I replugged it in and loaded the recovery CD. It started loading and returned with an error of Hard Disc Driver Not Found. Sad:(Sad Is my hard Drive recoverable, or should I just get a new one. The information on it was very important (documents and pictures), is there any way of salvaging it. Mr. Davey6, I've read your comments on other people with problems the same as mine, but different laptops. Does the same procedure apply to all laptops? (Use Win 98SE disc, etc) Thanks for any and all help up front.
your going have to take the hard drive out the laptop and place it in another machine IE a dest top or one of those ex hard drive cases that accept these drives then plug it in a usb port of a pc
then use the windows on the desk top to see if you can call back any info.
if the drive comes back as un readable on the desktop i may have a program to help.

sorry i can't log in to driverzone every day now to see how your getting on but i will check back by friday.

if you can't wait till then or have any questions please post on my own site at

Good looking out. I'm signimg in to your site as we speak. Just in case you check here, I tried the harddrive on my desk top using a Mad Dog USB laptop converter and my desktop did not recognize the laptop drive. I would appreciate any program that might help. Once again I'll also be checking your site.
gee

you need to put the drive back in to your laptop.
restart with the windows xp disk.
continue with the setup till it ask's what partition to use.
as you deleted the old one windows xp should find a new/raw partition.
high light that then format it.

who told you to take it out ? ,its not the correct way to go about installing windows on a laptop
