I have a Sony Vaio desktop PCV-RSV0G (ugh) that is about 3.5 years old and out of warranty. Def my LAST Sony!

The CD Player/Burner is not working. The infamous Geek Squad replaced the unit with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D [CD-ROM drive] three times before and even after the warranty expired to no avail! They all worked periodically, but now this latest one is not functioning at all. Any help would be appreciated. The drivers are as follows:

C:\\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\cd.rom.sys
C:\\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\imapi.sys
C:\\WINDOWS\System32\DRIVERS\PxHelp20.sys (not digitally signed)
C:\\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\redbook.sys
C:\\WINDOWS\system32\storprop.dll

I have no idea if the drivers are somehow at fault, but I am at a complete loss. I've used different media players and done what little I know how to do. Thanks! Jennifer
does the drive still show up in the sony bios ?
if its not showing in the bios the drive needs to be replaced.
Hi Dave, I thought I posted earlier however it doesn't seem to appear.

Anyway, forgive my ignorance, but how to I check the sony bios to see if the drive is showing up? Many thanks. Jennifer
to get into the bios screen of a sony laptop you have to push F2 just after you switch the laptop on.
that will let you in to your main bios screen you should see on the first screen a list of your drives
Hi Dave, thanks. It shows up (btw, it's a desktop, which is neither here nor there).

It says: Atapi CD-ROM
Then:    Pioneer DVD-RW-110D

I don't know what the Atapi CD-ROM is about though. Should I be looking at something to do with the Atapi? Thanks again....
sorry my mistake i saw sony and the model number but not desktop.

anyway what does device manager say ?

does device manager report a problem with your cdrom ?
if the bios is still seeing the drive the firmware is working so windows should see the drive even if it don't work.
if windows does not list a problem with the drive and it won't play or do anything i would have to say the drive has seen better days
and you need a another replacement,
or seeing how you have had so many drives in this pc over the past you may have a faulty ide cable alot of tech staff over look the cable and just replace the drive.
Thanks again. That makes sense. I guess I'll have to take it in to get fixed, or at least looked at. sigh.
