what burning software are you using to make the disk ?

sounds like your using the built in burner in windows xp.

just to make sure click start, all programs.
look for any program called easy cd creator or nero those are the two most used an pre installed on a shop bought pc.

if you spot one of those two you will need to update it.

also make sure your windows is fully upto date from windows update as any patch ( and there was a few ) for the built in burning in xp will show up and can be downloaded for free.
thank's i tried  a new burner NERO 6 and it still doesn't work on a new cd for music or data. i used cd-rw 4x 8x 12x . it start to prepare the disk, it says MASHITA UJDA720DVD/CD-RW BUFFER UNDERRUN PROTECTION ACTIVATED then CACHING OF FILES STARTED then CACHING OF FILES COMPLETED then BURN PROCESS STARTED AT 4X 600KB/S ( SAME AT 8X AND 12X ) then POWER CALIBRATION ERROR then  INVALID WRITE STATE MASHITAUJDA720 DVD/CD-RW\H1 T0 then COULD NOT PERFORM END TRACK then BURN PROCESS FAILED AT 4X 600KB/S... THAT WAS WITH A NEW CD-RW (I TRIED MANY BRAND ) but when i tried with an old CD-RW already half used, i have been able to write some data on it !!!! so i'm lost now i don't know were could come that problems. ty 4 ur reply. i get confused with everythings
hi all so i guess nobody can help me with my problem on my post #5
Sharlly,

This may be an issue with the corrupted CD /DVD driver. Did you tried reinstalling the Optical driver?

The Optical driver is the Operating system generic driver. Please reinstall the CD DVD driver and then check is that working.

I will provide you with the steps to reinstall the CD DVD driver.

Click start > Run > devmgmt.msc

Then locate the CD/DVD drive and then click on the + sign there

Then right click on the CD DVD icon and uninstall the driver.

Restart the computer... the operating system will automatically locate the driver for the CD DVD...

This should resolve the issue.

tx 4 ur reply RENJITH i'm gonna try it ,but when i restaRT MY pc i need to put the cd i got when i buy the pc. otherwise there no location for drivers isn't it?
this can be a problem with older cdrw drives.

few things you can do.

one slow down the burn speed, in nero if x4 is the max of the drive tell it x2

if you delete that drive it may not load back up its driver if you do not have your full motherboard drivers installed.
if you let me know the make and model number of your pc or motherboard i will make sure you have the most up to date drivers.
I have a Thinkpad T22 with the UJDA720 CD-RW drive and I sorry to hear you are having problems with the drive.

If you have Windows XP, then you can try the following steps from http://www.annoyances.org on how to use the XP CD writing wizard:

http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article01-110

Data CDs

1.Open Explorer, right-click on the drive icon for your CD recorder, and select Properties.

2.Choose the Recording tab, and make sure the Enable CD recording on this drive option is turned on.
You can also specify maximum recording speeds, which should match your optical drive's ratings.

Set any other options here as desired, and click Ok.

3.Drag-drop files onto the drive as though it were just another hard disk. You can even create folders and rearrange files by dragging and dropping.

4.When you're done, right-click the drive icon (or the Files Ready to Be Written to the CD note above), and select Write these files to CD.
The CD Writing Wizard appears, which allows you to specify a label for the disk (a task that is unavailable elsewhere). Follow the instructions here to complete the process.

Audio CDs

1. Open Explorer, right-click on the drive icon for your CD recorder, and select Properties.

2.Choose the Recording tab, and make sure the Enable CD recording on this drive option is turned on. You can also specify maximum recording speeds, which should match your optical drive's ratings.

Set any other options here as desired, and click Ok.

3.Open the Windows Media Player (wmplayer.exe).

4.Select Taskbar from the View menu, and then select Media Library.
In the tree on the left, navigate to Media Library -> Audio -> All Audio (if you're not already there).

5.Drag-drop any MP3 or WAV files into this window in the desired order. (The Move Up and Move Down buttons at the top of the window are disabled here for some reason, but the songs can be rearranged after the next step.)

6.When you're done, click the Copy to CD or Device button on the left (or select Taskbar from the View menu, and then select Copy to CD or Device).

7.The songs to be written to the CD are shown on the left, and any songs already on the CD are shown on the right. The playlist can be reorganized by right-clicking and select Move Up or Move Down.

8. When you're ready, click the Copy Music button in the upper right. Any MP3 files will be temporarily converted to WAV format, and then all tracks will be written to the CD.

You can also try updating the CD-RW BIOS to see if that fixes or corrects the writing/reading functions of the drive.

Here is one website that has a UJDA720 BIOS update for IBM computers:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=256

You can also try contacting Matshita (Panasonic) to see if they can send to you by email the newest BIOS firmware for this drive.

I hope this helps.
