I installed the latest driver for my Realtek HD soundcart hoping that I would be able to record music from the internet on my computer. Unfortunately no "Realtek HD Audio Input" option (I think that is the equivalent to the "What you hear" on Creative soundcards) appears in the "Sound recording" drop-down menu of my "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties". Does anyone know what I could do next?
I have the same problem. I just bought a Dell computer with Windows XP and tried to do my usual recording from the Internet. (I use Roxio.)

All I get is static.

My older other computer does the job well with a better sound card.

Do I need to install another sound card to get the job done?
Did you get any results. I have the same problem. I use Roxio and can't use my recorder unless I have it on computer. All I have is Mic and CD

I think the problem is with Integrated Sound Cards that use Realtek.

I would like to buy and install a new sound card.

Any Ideas?
depends on your price range and what windows your running.

creative make the best sounds cards the x-fi the one i have is just out of this world but at a cost..

if your thinking of a new card think of what about in two years time.
no more xp just vista and vista's replacement so make sure your new card can and does fully support vista.

I have just fixed the exact same problem with my daughter's system.
It's actually a problem with the way XP interacts with Realtek drivers during the original installation.
What you need to do (or at least this is what I did) is to get all the drivers handy then do a fresh reinstall of XP from scratch. When it's finished installing it will ask for the drivers, or even better, use the Realtek self installer at that time and cancel any Windows attempt to install the driver, it most likely will conflict with it. All I can say is that it worked for me.

Tip: I partition the drive into a 20gig C drive and the remainder for D drive. I install XP and all the programs on 'C' (obviously) and keep all the data on 'D' drive. Simply move your 'My Documents' folder to 'D' drive along with your email store folder location. XP runs a little quicker and that way you can use image software (I prefer Acronis) to create an image of 'C' drive so that if it crashes in the future, you don't have a monstrous backup file to install and you won't loose any data (except for your email addresses and favorites list) - which we all backup regularly anyway.

Hope this helps.
Additional thought - I found that I had less sound problems if I use XP with Service pack 2.
