Hi guys,
I have just put Vista Ultimate on my PC and I have managed to get everything working apart from my scanner (Visionerr 5800).
I can't find a Vista driver anywhere so I decided to try the XP driver. I installed and all seemed to go ok, the software installed. When the new hardware wizard found, I let Vista go looking for the driver and it found the one I installed.
Then - it comes back with an error saying that it can't copy to the specified target and stops there.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Paul
whats stopping it the driver or paperport ?
i have my own visioneer 4800 usb scanner running on vista it was a pain to get working but it does work with the xp driver.
the wy i done it was like this :
shut the firewall off in vista, put the disk in the cdrom, cancel the setup.
double click the compatibility wizard choose windows xp sp2
browse to the cdrom and find the setup icon.
click that and continue with the wizard, even with the firwall off it will still try and block what your doing tell it to continue.
when it all loaded restart windows,
again go into the compatibility wizard again choose windows xp sp2
but this time browse to the shortcut of paperport on your desktop.
if it works as it did for me tell vista to use those settings everytime you open that program.
Thanks for the reply.
I actually got it working last night via the compatibility option.
Cheers
Ugg..
Hello All!
Here is how I got my Visioneer 5800 working with Paperport 7.0
First I installed Paperport 7.0 from the CD. After it was installed, I went to the install directory (normally C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\) and right-clicked on the executable and changed the compatibility to XP SP2.
I did the same for the "One Touch Monitor" Executable.
Next I downloaded the 2000/XP Driver from here:
http://support.visioneer.com/drivers/5800.exe
I right-clicked on the 5800.exe and changed compatablity to XP and ran the program. [/color]
After the program ran I was able to use paperport 7.0 in Windows Vista!!! I hope this helps.
Best of Luck,
Ed D.
if you use the compatibility wizard to install the program there is no need to right click on it afterwards.
i run paperport 7 myself and had no problems with it using the compatibility wizard.
while i am at this post i might as well add this.
the visioneer 4800 usb scanner works under vista 32 bit and vista 64bit if you use the compatibility wizard.
i managed to run it on both versions of vista without to much trouble.
How big is that 5800.exe? I'm on crappy dialup and when I begin the download the size is listed as 'Unknown'.
I don't want to download it if it takes forever.
This forum's dead, isn't it?
no not dead just slow i have answered some 100+ questions today i have only just got round to check this board.
much more and my brain will turn to cream cheese today.
right download the newest driver for that scanner and upack it to your desk top.http://support.visioneer.com/products/home/EOL/5800/default.asp
now visioneer do not support this scanner under windows vista that is the last driver done for xp.
with that in mind have a read of this, its a work round i done for the 4800usb scanner there is no reason why the same should not work with the 5800, just remember to use your driver in place of the 4800.
