Hi ! Please help anyone.

I've just upgraded an old Patriot machine to Windows 2000 and now the USB ports have stopped working.

Does anyone know that this is a known issue.

Should I attempt to down grade the machine back to WIN98.

Sorry I have little information. The board has the numbers PA-2011 on it if it means anything to anyone.

Thanks

:(

I have now found a number on the back of the machine Partriot M11-300
If it helps?????

Actually.....if its a VIA chipset....they released a USB Patch that fixes the problem with USB 1.0 and 1.1.

you can find it here.....USB Patch for VIA Chipsets

I'm not a hardware type person so I havn't a clue how to tell what chips are in the machine
so I loaded the patch anyways !!
in this case a big mistake !!

it all looked good

it seemed to install ok it even detected new hardware USB hub etc

it then asked for a re-boot thats when the trouble began.

the machine now hangs either while still in teh BIOS boot checking or in early
stages of WINDOWS 2000 startup.

ste

check ur bios settings, look for anything about usb

what motherboard do you have?? look for a model number on the board itself. But I havent got a clue as to why it hangs. Cause my old motherboard did the same thing, unsopported blah blah and i did the USB filter patch and it all worked smooth after that.

it had a VIA chipset.

and if u have anything attached to the USB ports, unplug them to see what it does

re-booted the machine a couple of times.

the machine done a disc check on the C drive and now it seems ok

have looked in the device manager and the USB drivers have fired up.

I am totally in debt to you.

Thankyou very much for your time.

I would have been stuck with a dead machine otherwise.

Have a drink on me!! :)

all u did was restart it?? or did u unplug anything? just curious
