Notes:

This driver requires special installation instructions. The driver as it comes from Intel does not install correctly. DriverAgent.com strives to make driver installation as easy as possible. The following steps are required to install this Intel Driver:

  1. To start, if you have any other Intel drivers that need to be updated under the "System Devices" section of your DriverAgent scan results, update those drivers first, before updating the "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" that this driver will update
  2. Download the Intel chipset driver, and save it in your "C:" drive, not under any folder, just "C:"
  3. Click on the "Start" button in Windows, then click on "Run..."
  4. Type this into the window that appears:
If you have newer than Windows ME (2000, XP, Vista) enter (type and hit enter): cmd
If you have Windows ME or older (ME, 98, 95) enter (type and hit enter): command
  5. A black window will appear. In that window, enter (type and hit enter): cd \
  6. Now, enter (type and hit enter) the name of the Intel chipset driver that you downloaded followed by "-A"
    For example: infinst_autol_8_2_0_1014.exe -A
Make sure that you include a space before the dash. The installation program will indicate that the files were successfully extracted.
  7. Now, click on the start menu, then the "Settings" button, then "Control Panel" (if you do not see a Settings button, simply click on Control Panel). In the control panel, double-click on "System". In the window that appears, click on the tab labeled "Hardware", then click on the button labeled "Device Manager".
  8. In the Device Manager, within the list of devices shown, click on the "+" button next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" to expand the tree.
  9. There should be two devices now shown called "Intel(R) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers" or similar.
  10. On both of these devices, one at a time, complete the following steps:
    1. Right-click on the Intel ATA Storage Controller device.
    2. Click on "Update Driver" or if that is not available, click on "Properties" then the "Driver" tab, then "Update Driver".
    3. Windows might ask you if you want to connect to Windows Update. If not, skip this step. Select "No, not at this time" then press the "Next >" button.
    4. Click on "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", then click on "Next >"
    5. Select "Search for the best driver in these locations:", then uncheck "Search removable media", and check "Include this location in the search:"
    6. In the field underneath the checkbox, type in the following:
      C:\Program Files\Intel\INFInst\Inf\All
then click on the "Next >" button.
    7. Windows will now install your updated driver.
